I fly the Goblin nearly every time I launch rockets - anything from an 18mm C to a 24mm D sends the Goblin up - just depends on how far you'd like to walk after it lands!

I think I have more Goblins than any other Estes rocket kit. I have Goblins that did not begin life as Goblins ( a Big Daddy in Goblin paint, anyone? ) and I want MORE Goblins. Ok, maybe I have a Goblin problem, but who cares?! :) Flown on a C11, the Goblin goes up gracefully and draws oohs and ahhs. Stick a D in it and it disappears, only to be recovered not too far away thanks to the streamer recovery.

Let's start with flying this guy. C11s and Ds pack a punch, especially on smaller frames like the Goblin. A slow, dramatic liftoff this isn't. It'll be up past 500' before you know it. Because it uses streamers, it won't drift away, even if it gets up to its projected altitude. The downside there is that it will return to earth at a pretty good pace. Mine survived intact, but it landed in nice soft grass. I'm quite sure I would have cracked a fin if I landed on anything harder.
Building is quite simple. Maybe skill 1 easy. Slap the fins on, add weight to the nose, and paint. Finishing is easy too. An easy tape job and a few decals later and you're done. (As an aside, I always seem to need to need multiple coats when I use yellow paint. The color is never bold enough with just one coat, no matter which brand I use.) I get the feeling that Estes is loath to call any kits that take C11s or bigger skill 1. That's the only reason this is skill 2 instead of 1, if you ask me.

it looks great, my kids love the goblin decals - can't wait to launch it. I always wanted one when I was younger - now I do.

Put this one right up there with the Red Max as just a cool great flying bird.

I see it now has laser cut fins. The original you had to cut them from balsa stock. I made mine too small and it was unstable. I got a second one later it did much better. I agree with another review and would love to see an upscale.

Good deal- another chance to build a classic (and hopefully not donate it to the rocket gods in the sky like the one I built in the 70's!)

Looks like another classic from the past has returned....Thank you Estes.
