I love this rocket! It's a lot of fun to build and just as much fun to launch. It flies well and is relatively easy to track in the air. This is a great buy no matter what your level of rocketry is! Have fun! (Posted on 2/11/13)
A Level 3 build? Absolutely. You have to take time and care when putting this baby together. The upper stages have foam bodies and will require a coat of primer before painting. (Note: I used Painter's Tape for masking. When I removed the tape, it pulled off the primer... and bits of the foam!) The lesson? Take care when finishing.
My paint scheme looks like the picture above... it makes it easy to track in the air and find on the ground. The decals supplied make it look good. There are lots of them, so you'll probably need 3 or 4 sessions to apply them all.
Putting the shock cords into the THIN upper stage tubes is a bear... I had to slowly feed them in and stuff them down with a pencil. Make sure to tear your wadding into lots of relatively small pieces!
The flight itself? Magnificent. It launched straight and true and the booster ignited all three upper stages perfectly. They probably stayed within twenty-feet of each other on the way up! At apogee they nosed over, I heard three 'Pop's as the ejection charges blew, and they all drifted down... in different directions.
I strongly suggest that you have at least four people around so everyone can track and retrieve one section... but this is one FUN rocket! (Posted on 10/3/12)
This rocket is the first rocket I've ever built and it was a "blast" the entire time! The instructions were easy to follow and understand and the pieces were easy to assemble and put together. (Posted on 11/21/11)
